The island, well, that's what we call it. In our neighborhood we have two pieces of earth that our 3 streets swirl around. One smaller than the other, so our code to each other is the circle or the island. Why, you might ask, are we concerned with these pieces of city property?
We made them into gardens.
No more cars and trucks driving all over them. They are gardens to enjoy. As we work in the street there are conversations with strangers about the plants and how much they appreciate them.
It isn't so much an island, but an oasis.

Late August update.
The city just mowed down our garden island...a neighbor stopped them before they destroyed the whole thing, but destroyed most of it.
